Mumbai: Two brothers were arrested for allegedly cheating several people in Maharashtra after gathering payment in advance for booking villa weekend, claiming to be the owner.
They have delayed at least 12 people in 2021 with false information after getting photos of bungalows and villas with facilities from the hotel booking site and posting them on their Instagram page (luxury.villas.lonavala), police said.
Mumbai Cyber Police arrested Duo – Avinash Jadhwani (26), mass communication graduates, and his younger brother Aakash (21), trained in travel and hospitality management – from a star hotel in Viman Nagar in Pune on December 28 on December 28.
Duo booked a room for 10 days to celebrate the new year with the money they expected to be collected from people who ordered villas for the new year celebration.
The cyber police team beat brothers with technical assistance and learn from them that they spend their stay at a star hotel.
They never stayed at their Ghatkopar’s house for the past one and a half years, police said.
“The two brothers have run villa order fraud for the past.
They are active before the festival season when people are looking for booking Villa to spend time with their family and friends,” said DCP (Cyber-Mumbai) Dr.
Rashmi Kandandikar.
He said that the brothers were sought in the same case in Virar.
“If anyone ordered the villa after calling number 9653110750 or 8390864676, they had to approach each local police station and filed a complaint,” said Carandikar.
The brothers ran good luck when they delayed a 39-year-old foreign news media outlet by RS72,000.
He had transferred money as payment in advance to order a villa in Lonavla for two nights to celebrate the new year with his family after coming across the advertisement on Instagram “Luxury.villas.lonavala”.
He got related to one hardik by telephone and ordered a villa after receiving more photos.
“Fraud was carried out between 6 and December 22, 2021.
I paid RS72,000 (50% down payment) to stay two nights.
I received a confirmation letter from the Addr Mail Ess (Richfeel Hospitality) ordered I was confirmed with Mawi Infinity Villa.com.
On December 19, I tried to call hardik but the number was turned off.
On December 22, I checked with Mawi Infinity Villa.com and managed to get the details of the owner of the bungalow (Dharmik Modi) and learned from him that he had never posted an ad and never received payment from I, “he said.
According to victims of fraud, Dharmik Modi told him that he had received a similar question from another caller too.
Previously, the duo was booked at Chunabhatti, Dadar, DB Marg, Malabar Hill, Mulund, Powai, Khandeshwar (Navi Mumbai), Thane Rural, Naya Nagar (Mira Road), and Pimpri-Chinchwad police station.
“Their bank statement was examined to get the details of the number of people they had drops,” said a police officer.
They have taken payments to order villas on Alibaug, Goa, and Lonavla for Christmas and New Year celebrations, the officers added.
