Mumbai: CNG will cost Rs 2 more for each kg, including tax, from Saturday morning while the gas cooking level pipe will increase by Rs 1.50 per unit.
The price revised for CNG is Rs 63.50 per kg and Rs 38 per unit for gas pipes.
This year, the CNG level in the Mumbai Metropolitan region has increased around Rs 16 in 11 months, a major burden for more than 8 Lakh consumers, including more than 3 Lakh private car users other than public transportation such as autos, taxis and buses.
This is the fourth price increase in the last three months of important items.
The black and yellow taxi and the autorickshaw union now demanded another increase of RS 5 and RS 2, in the minimum rate after the increase.
Leader of the Mumbai Union Rickshawmen Tham Kurien said the tariff increase given earlier this year was based on CNG prices under RS 50, but now it has passed Rs 60, reducing income for drivers.
The Leader of Mumbai Taximen A L Quadros said because of the increase in the price of large fuel in 2021, many drivers wanted to switch to electricity taxis in the near future.
Many aggregator taxi drivers have switched from Diesel to CNG to save costs, but the increase had an impact on their profits too.
They tend to demand an increase in tariffs that will affect the driver, said the source.
A spokesman for Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) said CNG and pipeline gas rates were stopped to fulfill the lack of domestic gas allocation.
“Because there is a substantial increase in natural gas prices internationally, we are limited to increasing CNG prices and gas pipes in Mumbai.” He showed that even after the price revision, CNG offered savings that attracted around 60% and 33% compared to gasoline and diesel, respectively, at the current price level in Mumbai.
Comparative price of gasoline is Rs 109.98 per liter and retail diesel at Rs 94.14 per liter.
“Also, domestic pipeline offers 24% savings compared to current prices of domestic LPG cylinders – almost Rs 900 per cylinder in Mumbai.
Gas pipes are safe, reliable, and environmentally friendly,” he said.
