Mumbai: In the midst of a vaccine shortage, the city on Tuesday reached a milestone by completing 50 lakh vaccinations.
However, vaccination drives will be trimmed in 315 public centers on Wednesday because of the unavailability of doses.
Dr.
Mangala Gomare, BMC executive health worker, said that some doses are expected to arrive on Wednesday, which will be distributed to public centers on Thursday.
“We will have limited trips on Wednesdays and centers may still be closed on Thursday,” he said.
On Tuesday, a limited public center gave a vaccine.
More than 83,650 people can be inoculated – around 47,000 in the public center and 36,662 in person.
According to Cowin, a total of 90,93,920 vaccine doses have been given in Mumbai since the beginning of the trip in January.
At least 67.5 people lakh have the first dose, while 23.4 lakh has been fully vaccinated.
“About 70% of the population Mumbai has been vaccinated with at least one dose, while 25% have obtained both doses,” said Suresh Kakani, Commissioner of the Additional City.
He said BMC tried to speed up vaccination depending on the dose before the expected third wave.
According to BMC data, more than 90% of senior citizens, more than 80% in the age group 45-59 and around 57% in the age group 18-44 have been covered with at least one dose, officials said.
The private sector has also been assisted in the coverage of Mu-Mbai vaccine, Kakani said.
More than 43%, or more than 38 doses of lakh, have been defeated in the private sector.
