Mumbai: The rate of cybercrime detection at five city cyber police stations is 59% in 2021, better than 13% in 94 police stations.
Of the 2,883 Offens Cyber reported last year, 2,724 was registered at the police station and 159 with police cyber.
According to the 2021 annual report, the CyberCrime case rose 18% last year compared to 2020 (2,435 cases).
However, the detection rate remains low-16%.
In 2020, it was 9%.
To increase the level of detection, Mumbai police have made the allocation of RS 25 Crore to get a cyber tool.
“The police faced difficulties in detecting online fraud, which were mostly carried out by young people in remote locations from Jharkhand, Bihar, Rajasthan and West Bengal,” said Commissioner with Police (crime) Bharambe.
Blaming the procedure takes a social media intermediary for a low detection rate, Police Commissioner Mumbai Hemant Nagral urges the victims to contact the police in the ‘gold hour’.
“In 2021, the cyber police managed to stop the online transaction fraud with a total of Rs 6 Crore when the victims approached us in one hour after being cheated,” he said.
“Intangible cyber criminals and servers used are mostly located outside India.
We are developing a separate unit at police stations and training officers to detect cyber cases, with the support of the five cyber police stations.” Cyber Ritesh Bhatia experts agree That lack of support with intermediaries, including social media platforms, banks and digital payment providers, produce delays that prevent police and citizens.
Cyber Lawyer Prashant Mali associates the level of gloomy detection to “low motivation and poor technical skills” among the police.
“Even the emergency helpline still has not been implemented in Maharashtra to stop money from being sucked from a bank account or through online fraud,” he added.
