Mumbai: The fire brigade will soon get a bicycle to fight fire in slums and clogging areas.
It will buy 24 bicycles for that purpose.
BMC will spend RS 3.15 Crore on customized bicycles, including the total cost of their care.
The proposal to buy a fire bike will be placed before the Standing Civic committee on Wednesday.
This proposal was first debated in January 2020 but was delayed due to a pandemic.
“Just a bicycle will cost Rs 2.76 Crore.
We will spend an additional 28.32 lakh RS on service and maintenance for five years.
This fee will include bicycle assembly and commissioning and maintenance.
After work order is removed, the bike will be appointed in two Moon.
We will take two more months to assemble them, “said an official.
The official said the fire bike would be equipped with water tanks, water pipes, hose rolls and pumps.
Bikes will be equipped with a tank that can carry around 40 liters of water along with fire fighting equipment.
Officials say bikes will be fired with a GPS device and a pump attached to a bicycle will be able to spray almost 8 liters of water in one minute.
“Two firefighters can ride a bicycle and can reach the place before the team reaches with a large water tanker and fire fighting machine and assesses the situation and reports back to the command center,” the official said.
