‘Mumbai Omicron Curve is similar to South Africa’

Mumbai: Remembering a quick gain and “stabilization” that is equally fast in the ongoing Omicron-Covid wave, experts say the Mumbai curve is similar to those in South African cities than European and US experiences.
“The outbreak in South Africa sees a sharp increase in the number of cases, but very few are needed inpatient or oxygen support.
Also, a drop in the case is sharp,” said Dr Shashank Joshi, a member of the Covid state assignment unit.
“This is how the waves behave in Mumbai so far,” he said.
The third wave was seen in Mumbai on December 21-22, 2021, the period when Kasel Daily jumped from 312 to 480.
The daily calculation increased to 1,333 on December 28 and continued to double in a row, reached 20,971 at 7,971 at 7,971 on 7,971 on 7 January.
The numbers have fallen since, fluctuated between 11,000 and 13,000 in the last week (with the exception of January 12 when 16,420 registered).
“The plateau has been seen in Mumbai,” said Dr.
Joshi.
Unlike the omicron peak, which takes around three weeks, the second Delta wave takes almost two months to peak and stabilize.
Waves in the UK see exponential increases at the end of November and continue to date.
In the US, Omicron waves not only see a large increase in cases, but accompanied by increased inpatient and death.
“The US has a large anti-vax lobby and data analysis shows that most cases and deaths treated in hospitals are people who are not vaccinated,” said Dr.
Joshi.
The number of children hospitalized also increased sharply in the US in December 2021.
There are other reasons for different Mumbai.
A doctor from Kem Hospital said, “The US is in the middle of the Delta wave when the Omicron wave begins, with the last soon following the first.
‘” However, in Mumbai, the Delta wave has declined completely with fewer cities registering.
from 200 cases a day.
Dr.
Joshi added that Mumbai had a high level of vaccination.
BMC Executive Health Officer Dr.
Mangala Gomare said that even though Omicron was the dominant variant circulating in Mumbai, there were still Delta cases in the city.
“Delta cases may have lung involvement and need medical attention, unlike Omicron.”
