Mumbai: Mumbai’s first genome sorting laboratory at the Civic managed Nair Hospital will offer additional advantages in the battle against Coronavirus because new facilities can analyze a large number of samples in a short time and also identify mutants, something that will be very important.
Useful in the hotspot area, the hospital said on Wednesday.
This lab is inaugularly inaugurated by Maharashtra Minister Uddhav Thackeray.
Other projects – Spinraza therapy for spinal (SMA) muscular atrophy in children is also launched at TP N Medical College & BYL Nair Charle Hospital, one of the main medical institutions in the city as part of a hundred-year celebration.
Speaking after the inauguration, Thackeray said Nair Hospital, which was founded 100 years ago during the Spanish flu pandemic, was preparing to fulfill the health of other citizens.
He praised the hospital to prepare new facilities without the help of the state government or corporation of the city of Mumbai.
“The hospital was founded 100 years ago with the help of generous and today, donors have advanced.
This is a tradition,” CM said.
Thackeray also said the need for one hour is to make drugs available for conditions such as spinal muscle atrophy in India, because the maintenance costs run to Crores.
The doctor also tried hard to see that no child died of this condition, he added.
On Sunday, Vedika Shinde was one year old, suffering from type 1’s muscular (SMA) atrophy, died in a hospital in Pune district weeks after he was given injection rescuers worth Rs 16 Crore.
Established on September 4, 1921, Nair Hospital provides extensive training courses in various medical branches and allies including super special courses.
“This institution has provided a community with medical Stalwart who has provided self-respectful health care services for decades and we look forward to our future generation to continue this noble culture and tradition,” said a statement issued by the hospital.
The next generation generation sequencing (NGS) is the method of characterization of pathogens.
This technology is used to determine the sequence of nucleotides in all targeted genomes or regions of RNA or DNA, which helps in understanding the differences between two virus strains, thus identifying mutants, he said.
“NGS specialization is a large number of samples can be processed in a short time at high speed.
In the current pandemic, this test has many benefits especially in hotspots, and in clinical presentations that are unique.
Mutant identification and variant in the virus is built allowing public health policy decisions, “Hospital said.
Each batch for testing will consist of 384 samples and the results will be stated in four days.
Spinraza spinraza (SMA) muscular atrophy includes a group of progressive neuro muscle disorders, degeneratively inherited, where children die at a young age due to respiratory failure or they are bound by a wheelchair for life, the statement said.
It is said by nonprofit NGOs based in California, direct relief, providing new Nusinersen (Spinraza) drugs for high school treatment under the Humanitarian access program of patients with spinraza patients (SIPHAP).
“The Independent International Medical Expert Committee (MEC) high school specialist chooses 17 candidates in the most qualified for Spinraza.
This drug will be imported in August because it gives it to patients.
Seven doses are given in the first year of treatment, followed by three years.
Dosage every year afterwards, during The rest of the patient’s life.
“All injections will be provided by the intrathecal route.
At present, the single dose of the spinraza injection requires 87 lakh RS costs.
The total annual cost of therapy for one patient was almost Rs 6 Crore in the first year and almost Rs 3.2 Crore in the following years.
After selecting the patient will receive this therapy for life, “he said.
Dr.
Al Nair, after whom the road where the hospital is, has contributed two hectares of land for the hospital campus in the 20th century.” In 1925, Dr.
Nair also helped set up a complete hospital that he named after his mother Bai Yamunabai Laxman Nair.
He also donated funds to run the hospital.
Immediately, MN Desai, known as Topwala Desai, made a big contribution of Rs 5 lakh to campus – which was later named after him as a Hopwala National Medical College, “said the hospital.
In March 2020, Nair Hospital became the first teaching hospital to become Dedicated Covid-19 Hospital.
“On top of a pandemic, we have recognized more than 18,000 patients, giving birth to more than 1,000 covid mothers while more than one lakh has been vaccinated,” said the statement.
Mumbai on a sick day 288 new cases Covid-19 , Taking a total to 7,35,659, and three more deaths, which raised the victim to 15,911, in accordance with the city civil bodies.
