Mumbai: The day after light rain, the city is layered with a piece of dust all day Sunday because occasionally the wind raises dust.
While the visibility was thus reduced, Mumbai also saw the lowest January temperatures in a decade.
Observatory Santacruz The weather bureau records a maximum temperature of 23.8 degrees Celsius, which is almost seven degrees below normal.
Officials at the Meteorology Department of India (IMD) said the dust storm came from Balochistan, Pakistan.
The storm was caused by the Western trough which was combined with moist weather.
It moves eastward, affects the salaurashtra area, before reaching the parts of the North Conkan, including Mumbai.
“This is a short-lived phenomenon and will not stay long,” said an IMD official.
The weather bureau also said that the alarm had been issued which indicated that because of dust, Mumbai could experience a run away with poor visibility.
Rajesh Valappil, a resident of Santacruz, said it was a strange weather experience with dust and cold both of them lasted during the day.
“I only experienced such conditions in Leh.
This is an example of climate change, I think, and concern for future generations,” he said.
Meanwhile, cold weather conditions were recorded on Sundays.
