Mumbai: In the midst of the rapid spread of Covid-19 and Omicron infection, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Monday announced it to close all schools from class 1 to 9 and grade 11.
Class 10 (SSC) and 12 (HSC) will not be closed given the crucial council examination that will begin around a month later.
However, Commissioner BMC I.S.

The move was almost a few weeks after the BMC and the state government made a decision to reopen the school – closed since March 14, 2020, with only online classes permitted – gradually in October and December 2021 – as an effect of the first and both waves of pandemic covid subsided .
Class 8 to 12 was allowed to continue from October 4, and on December 15, the rest – grade 1 to 7 also began to function offline, with the majority of students appearing at school.
With the spread of the third wave now, the Ministry of Education discusses the steps that remember the health and safety aspects before deciding to close all physical classes from grade 1 to 9 and grade 11, until January 31.
School authorities regret that many have stopped full online classes when students began attending classes physically in large quantities with full Covid protocols applied.
At present, Mumbai is the worst affected in the case of Covid-19 and the variant of the Omicron case in the past few weeks.
Covid cases jumped several thousand every day in the state which also led to the calculation of Omicron with 328 infected so far, despite the mortality rate was low.
