Mumbai: Mumbai wakes up to Monday morning that is cold because the minimum temperature entered by the Observatory IMD Santacruz at 13.2 degrees Celsius is the lowest for this season.
The maximum temperature also sets a record for January on the first day of the week.
Monday saw the lowest day day temperatures for January in a decade as the IMD Observatory Santacruz recorded a maximum temperature of 25.1 degrees Celsius which was more than six degrees below normal.
Cold in the weather came almost a few days after the city witnessed perionistic rain which was also the highest recording in January in a decade.
Meanwhile, the maximum temperature recorded by the IMD Colaba Observatory is 25.7 degrees Celsius which is 4.8 degrees below normal.
The IMD has expected further decline in temperature for the city with a minimum temperature expected on Tuesday to touch 12 degrees.
The minimum temperature recorded by the IMD Santacruz Observatory on Monday is even lower than the city’s interior as the parts such as Dahanu recorded a minimum temperature of 15 degrees Celsius and Ratnagiri from 19 degrees Celsius.
The temperature of Mumbai is very close to the weather like a hill station because Mahabaleshwar looks recording a minimum of 10 degrees Celsius last night.
IMD Colaba Observatory also records below a normal minimum temperature of 15.2 degrees Celsius which is more than four degrees below normal.
With the current weather conditions it became the first strong mantra of the cooling of the city watching this season, the weather participants said that the same thing was due to a combination of factors.
“The circulation of the related cyclones of Western Disorders over Northwest India attracted moisture from the Arab Sea.
Also, the prevalence of cold winds in this area leads to this cold,” said an IMD official.
However, the IMD officials said that the trend tended to continue only for the next 24 hours after the gradual increase in temperature could be expected.
The lowest minimum temperature last year in January was 14.8 degrees Celsius and in the year before 11.4 degrees Celsius.
The lowest minimum temperature of all time was recorded on January 22, 1962, at 7.4 degrees Celsius.
