A road in byculla which accommodated two “safer” schools during dry run in October.
This is a children’s decision and other road users who are part of the survey conducted under the project ‘Safer access to school.
This survey was conducted at Mirza Ghalib Road where Christ Church School and St Agnes High School are located with the aim of creating a friendly school zone and walking distance in the city.
A survey to assess the impact of the trial revealed that nearly 93% of children felt that the road was more accessible during the trial while all the children surveyed (100%) felt safe during the trial.
Overall, 120 people were interviewed, including 40 children, 40 pedestrians, 20 business operators and 20 riders before and during the trial.
The survey lasts for three weeks in October.
Design solutions which are part of the trial including limiting the school zone with signage, road sign, providing the designated area to walk and wait, zone for pick-up and drop-off, children’s friendly room with lively and zebra elements and vibrant zebra intersection.
Run trial begins by BMC, traffic police and world resource institutions under the BLOOMBERG philanthropic initiative for global road safety.
The Corporator Rais Shaikh of the area said the plan to make this solution active after a successful trial.
