Mumbai: The score of the person who recently recovered from Covid-19 is now facing a vaccination dilemma.
While science said they did not need to be affixed for three months at least, the state requires people to be fully vaccinated to ride a local train or even entering a shopping center.
This means that the restored person must wait at least four to six months before they can get JAB and produce a vaccine certificate that shows their feasibility for relaxation such as for train trips.
The first three months became the waiting period for the recovery of vaccination posts and the next became an interval between vaccine doses.
“Someone who recently recovered from infection has antibodies and is as good as vaccinated,” said Dr.
Sunil Arora, Professor of Immunology at PGI Chandigarh and the President of the Indian Immunology Society.
According to him, such people must be allowed to take a local train.
Government decisions are based on scientific advice, which can be considered based on evidence that arises, he said.
A civilian official also admitted that full vaccination mandates were obstacles for covid patients recently.
“Some of them have spent a lot of time and money to recover and now they cannot return to work or business using trains,” said a city commissioner assistant to Ti.
In Mumbai, around 250-300 people test positive for Covid-19 every day.
In August, more than 6,000 people were tested positively, even though there was no data to show how many had taken a single or second dose.
The decision of the state to only allow people who are fully vaccinated to the local train are also contested by some public health experts too.
Dr.
Chandrakant Lahariya, a public policy expert, previously told TI that such decisions should have an exception, including allowing people who had taken a single dose to take the train.
The Covid-19 state assignment unit has supported a full vaccination mandate that says it is a “global benchmark” to enable relaxation.
A State Official said there was also a concern of lower antibodies in people who experienced mild infections or did not show symptoms.
Dr.
Arora, though, it is clear for someone who has recovered from Covid-19 which is most protected for three months.
“Central decisions are based on scientific evidence, so why encourage someone to vaccinate earlier even if it’s harmless,” said Dr.
Arora.
Epidemiologist Dr.
Jayaprakash Muliyil took further debate and said the Indian vaccine policy had damaged the role of fully natural immunity.
