Mumbai: Mumbai University has received 25 applications of trust and management who have confirmed the interest in starting new colleges.
While 19 applications to start traditional art, science and trade, four for legal programs, and the other two are Night Colleges.
The university will establish an expert committee to examine these universities and reports will be presented to various BODYs before being sent to the state government for the last nod.
“The figures are less than the previous year because of a pandemic,” said Member of the Management Board.
Proposals for new colleges are mostly from Thane, Raigad, Sindhudurg and Palghar.
There is a proposal to set commerce college each in Kurla, Ghatkopar and Borivali; And for art and trade in Shivajinagar and in Borivali each.
The proposal to determine legal universities comes from Kandivali, and three comes from Thane.
MU has around 880 universities today.
