Mumbai’s six Sewer plants India’s Lightest: BJP

MUMBAI: When it emerged that firms have bid over 30% over the BMC’s quotes for six Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs),” BJP accused that the civic figure of spurring cartelisation with prohibitive tender states and establishing the most expensive STPs from the nation.
Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis, later analyzing data on establishing of 60 STPs around India, for example in Navi Mumbai and Delhi, pointed out the typical price of sewer treatment comes to about Rs 1.7 crore/ thousand litres each day (MLD).
But going from the tenders received from the BMC, it might amount to Rs 7.5 crore/ MLD, or nearly six times greater compared to the nationwide average.
Times ViewTenders for its plants are scrapped many times before over price escalation and inadequate reaction from bidders.
The BMC’s Mumbai Sewage Disposal Project-II was proceeding at a snail’s pace for over 15 decades now, and it’s high time that it’s completed.
However, the BMC needs to execute the major job in a transparent fashion, with no unnecessary price escalations and with decent explanations regarding the allegations created so far.BMC terms producing cartels, scrap STP tenders, states FadnavisBJP’s Devendra Fadnavis required the cartels tenders for its sewage treatment plants have to be scrapped.
“The STP job is extremely important and it’s been pending for near five decades.
But we can not let it occur this manner.
The BMC should scrap the recent tenders and call for new tenders.
This significant project has to be implemented in a clear way where there’s a competitive tender procedure rather than a prohibitive method,” Fadnavis told TOI.
Charges of price escalation have dogged the BMC’s ambitious endeavor of a series of seven STPs to prevent polluted waste from entering rivers and the ocean and also postponed the important job.
For half of them (see box), it’s received calls, taking the total to more than 15,000 crore.
The BMC has chosen to invite an original tender for its STP in Malad.
“I’d done a great deal of followup for establishing new criteria for sewer discharge to the ocean.
However, the BMC’s prices aren’t justified whatsoever.
The tender terms were so restrictive that only a couple businesses could engage and that there was large-scale cartelisation.
I’ve shared statistics of the prices of over 60 STPs throughout the nation.
The BMC’s prices are near six times within the normal price, which will be improper and unexplainable,” Fadnavis added.
The BMC’s strategy to upgrade/rebuild fully the STPs is a part of their Mumbai Sewage Disposal Project-II (MSDP).
Under this project, that was going at a snail’s pace for over 15 decades, the civic body will likely pay over Rs 15,000 crore to reconstruct STPs.
The seven crops are going to have the ability to recycle about 1,700 million litres of water each day.
Further municipal commissioner (jobs ) P Velrasu had stated the BMC has three committees with financial and technical specialists to examine the technical suggestions and perform a comprehensive cost analysis to arrive at affordable prices.
