Thiruvananthapuram: As many as 504 wild boars have been shot dead in the past and a half months just, and killing wild animals that indiscriminately are not a solution to overcome human-animal conflicts and plant damage, said the forest minister AK Sasasedran in the assembly on Thursday.
Approve the view of the minister, opposition leader V D Sathean emphasizes the need to form a comprehensive plan for sustainable human coexistence and animals.
Sathean said more elephants had deviated into human settlements and pampering plants because the natural elephant corridors in the forest had been blocked by human intervention.
“Considering the geographical peculiarities of the state, the government must form a comprehensive management plan.
The special division under the Head of Forest Conservator (CCF) must handle the subject and special insurance plans must be designed for those who live near forest areas,” SatheMedan said.
Citing examples of other countries where chili is planted along the forest route to prevent elephants from eating plants, Sathean says these steps must also be explored.
Saseendran said the government would allocate more funds to carry out activities to reduce the Humanwildlife conflict next year.
In 17 regions, the Department of Forest and wildlife plans to produce drone supervision, thus giving a timely warning to farmers about potential threats.
In addition, Jana Habratha Samithi, 246 of them have been formed, functioning properly.
They will be extended to more fields, the Minister said.
Steps are taken to ensure food and water for animals in the forest.
A total of 723 pools were cleaned and rejuvenated, while 197 were newly excavated, he said.
He said he had held a discussion with MLA from nine districts where there were forest sharing limits with human settlements and that he had received 1,600 suggestions.
He added that the Ministry of Forestry will prepare a design report and will submit recommendations to the minister’s chairman.
Previously, raising problems seeking leave for the movement of delay, Sunny Joseph MLA said the incident of animals that attacked humans and plants in the districts that had forest cover had increased.
