Mumbai: Trustee for Haji Ali Blood and Managing Guardian Safe Mahim Dargah Suhail Khandvani has ruffled many feathers by saying that Muslims in Maharashtra should not demand a quota of 5 percent at work and education.
There is a new effort to get Muslim reservations as agitation for Maratha reservations take momentum.
“The Constitution does not allow it.
The Supreme Court has rejected the Maratha reservation because reservations cannot be stretched more than 50 percent,” Khandwani said, added, “the community does not need a reservation distribution.” He stressed that, instead of wasting their time and energy in a 5 percent fight of reservations, Muslims must ensure that they get their part in 27 per cent bookings OBC.
Khandwani’s statement has made many Muslim leaders.
“This might be a personal opinion of Khandwani, but various Muslim NGOs, committees led by Haknath Mishra and Sachar and by former Mahmoodur Bureaucrat Rahman recommended a reservation for Muslims.
The Congress Government-NCP provides a 5 percent reservation to Muslims in 2014 on social and Blades of public education.
The Bombay High Court allows booking Muslims in education, “said former Minister Arif Naseem Khan.
Batting for Muslim bookings, MLA Congress Amin Patel said that Khandwani’s statement was misleading because the reservation was given to social and education classes (SEBC) among Muslims.
“This is not the reason for religion and we reaffirm that at least reservations in education allowed by the High Court must be given to the public,” Patel said.
Meanwhile, founder of all OBC organizations India India Shabbir Ansari supported the view of Khandwani and said that many Muslim OBC faced obstacles in obtaining OBC’s certificates and efforts to be carried out to eliminate the obstacles and get reservations in the OBC quota 27 percent.
“Many retarded Muslims have benefited from 27 percent of OBC reservations and efforts to get incentives such as minority scholarships, educational loans, free guidance and guidance for competitive examinations,” Ansari said.
