Ahmedabad: The presence of Swan Mute Swan (Cygnus Olour) in Jamnagar has created a flutter between bird observers when they flock to see this rare bird glimpse which had not been seen in the wild for almost a century now, according to experts.
The majestic bird, which mentions its name ‘mute’ because of lack of vocals than other goose species, seen by three Yashodhan Bhatia bird observers, Ashish Pankhania and Ankur Gohil on Sunday at Lake Dhinchada within the city of Jamnagar and closer to Port Bedi.
“If this is a wild bird then maybe this is the appearance of the bird who was first recorded in India.
But I think this is an escape from the zoo or bird cage,” said Suresh Kumar, a senior scientist at the Wildlife Institute of India (Wii) involved in A number of projects on migration birds.
Usually found in the US, UK and other countries with a cooler climate, experts do not rule out the possibility that the bird can escape from a bird cage or zoo because they are not known long-distance migrants.
But there are records that show that the bird has been seen in the past during the winter.
