Chennai: Minister of Water Resources Tamil Nadu Duraimurugan said on Monday that his department had decided to open the Multaperiyar dam window to release water to Kerala on October 29, following the direction of the Supreme Court.
Tamil Nadu officers, who set the dam, opened the window.
His statement came after opposition parties, AADMK and BJP, questioned the release of water to Kerala in the presence of ministers who were far superior to the 142-leg level were permitted.
Duraimurugan said Kerala was intimidated about the increase in water surfaces on October 27 and the Spillway gate opened on October 29 at 7.29 in the morning by Tamil Nadu officers.
“At that time, the Minister and officer Kerala were also present,” Duraimurugan said.
In accordance with the rules curve approved by the Central Air Commission, the water level to be maintained on the dam was 138.5 feet on October 10, 137.75 feet on October 20, 138 feet on October 31.
On October 29, the water level was 138.75 feet, while the rule level permitted for the appropriate period was 138 feet.
“This increase after drawing maximum water to the Vaigai Dam through the tunnel.
Thus, excess water must be released through the spillway after giving a down payment,” Minister said, adding that the water level could reach 142 feet on 30 November.
