The Myanmar military government has arrested two more local journalists, the Army’s television reported on Saturday, the latest among the dozens of detensions in the hard action in the media since the February 1 coup.
SITHU AUNG Myint, a columnist for the Myanmar border news site and commentator with Radio Voice of America, and Htet Htet Khine, a freelance producer for the BBC media action, was arrested on August 15, the Myawaddy TV reported.
Myint Sithu Aung was charged with incitement and spread false information that Myawaddy said critically against the junta and urged people to join the strike and return of the opposition groups that were prohibited.
Htet Htet Khine was accused of saving Sithu Aung Myint, a criminal suspicion, and worked for and supported the government of the Chinese unity of shadow.
The BBC media action said in a statement was worried about the safety of Htet Htet Khine and the allegations of it, and very monitored the situation.
Reporter without Borders (RSF) said the couple was detained incommunicado.
“We strongly condemned the arbitrary conditions of their detention, which reflected the brutality with a military junta treating journalists,” said the Asia-Pacific Table Head Daniel Bastard.
Myanmar remained full of instability and opposition to military power, where more than 1,000 people were killed, according to a group of activists who had tracked the murder https://reut.rs/3SZE8TG by security forces.
The military, which has revoked the license of many news outlets, said it respects the role of the media but will not allow news to report it considered wrong or tend to create public riots.
A report by the Committee to protect journalists last month said Myanmar rulers had effectively criticized independent journalism.
Human Rights Watch at the end of last month said the government government had arrested 98 journalists since the coup and had to stop demanding media staff.
Of those arrested, 46 remained in detention at the end of July.
