Mysuru: Activists from the city have launched online petitions to protect the Chamundi hill from landslides.
Until Monday morning, 21,140 people signed the petition.
Activists say that prohibiting non-scientific development work hold the key to achieving this.
Scion of MySuru Royal Family, Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, also asked the public to sign this petition as preserving the hills is all tasks.
Landslides on October 20 are eye opener for those who demand this ecologically sensitive area development.
This petition is aimed at the governor, and looks for intervention in this matter.
Activists blame the development work that is not regulated on the hills for landslides, which pose a threat to the hill temple.
The petition showed that landslides took place in three places on the hill, and the same reason was uncertain.
“The authorities are interested in widespread streets on the Bukit Chamundi into four lanes, even though landslides.
Ropeway has been proposed several times, and has been stopped after protest by netizens,” said the petition.
The petition was curated by Activists Bhamy Shenoy, Sudhir Vombatere, and Saptagirish.
According to the S Shylajesha activist, the idea behind online petitions is involving local residents in this ecological sensitive area conservation.
“Because Covid-19, many people may not participate in physical demonstrations or protests against unscientific works on the Chamundi hill.
However, we call for people to raise their voices about this problem through online petitions,” he said.
The petition showed that for many years, on behalf of the development of hill, some construction work was taken, and many illegal buildings and were planned to have come there.
The government’s development plan for Bukit Chamundi, intended to increase tourists, including the construction of shopping complexes, dormitories, guesthouses, and multi-level parking on the hill.
This has led to the commercialization of inheritance sites, which is now fighting the impact of continuous citizenship and environmental environment, because the hill is filled with solid waste produced by existing commercial activities, the applicants stated.
According to the applicant, spiritual status, religion and legacy and the sanctity of the Bukit Chamundi threatened today, and the government needs to take a proactive approach, people and environmentally friendly to protect and preserve it.
