Mysuru police reveal adoption rackets

MySuru: District Police have revealed illegal adoption rackets by solving three cases in less than two months.
A 60-year-old woman and his 31-year-old daughter was arrested for trading newborns and sold babies to couples without children in Hassan and Kollegal, while other cases were being investigated in HD Kote.
The duo of the mother-child has collected Rs 7.5 lakh from a couple who adopted illegally.
Police supervisor R Chethan on Wednesday said he was suspicious there might be more cases of illegal adoption.
“Until now two cases have been excavated from the mother and daughter.
The team has been formed to dig deep into illegal racquets,” he said.
Until now, police have not found similarities in two cases in Nanjangud.
Srimathi aka Saraswathi and his daughter Lakshmi allegedly contacted a newly financially poor mother and children’s partner, and worked as a mediator between them making money.
We suspect the involvement of private hospital staff in Mysuru where the two babies were delivered, SP was added.
Srimathi allegedly collected Rs 4 lakh from Hassan’s couple to give them a baby boy while the RS 3.5 Lakh was collected from a couple of kumplegal for a baby girl.
Money has been confiscated from Srimathi.
Mothers may not be aware of money transactions by Srimathi, SP stated.
Srimathi, residents of Nanjangud, rented auto and do strange work to make a living, police said.
The case was revealed after the waplance of Angganawadi alert Shashikala gave a child’s welfare authority about the lost baby.
Jyothi, the baby’s mother could not give a convincing reply about the lost baby, the worker of Anganwadi told the officials.
This led to the discovery of other illegal adoptions regulated by Manjula, also from Nanjangud.
Both cases are close to the heel of the HD Kote case where the couple adopts a baby boy from a Hassan mother without participating in government guidelines.
All children are now in government custody in care centers in Mysore and Mandya.
In Nanjipp and HD Kote, the police have appealed to the public to share information about the activities of the Bunda-Princess Duo.
