Mysuru: City Corporation has shown a way to overcome the challenges related to the management of the construction debris after the city dropped to 12th in the recent Swachh Surevekshan survey.
MySuru City Corporation has succeeded in building a compound wall using construction debris in a solid waste management unit located in the cemetery near Jodi Tengina Mara in Bannimantap Highway Circle.
The Civic Agency reused at least 50% of construction waste and demolition by building a compound wall.
As a compound wall, which was built a few years ago, is in a dilapidated condition, the corporate authority has approached the Public Works Department (PWD) to provide estimates for the construction of a compound wall.
Based on these requests, the PWD authorities estimated the construction costs to Rs 4 Lakh.
Meanwhile, the MCC Sridevi environmental engineer approached the founder of low-energy low energy (RLEEF) Rajesh Kumar Jain, which has built a structure using construction debris, to build sustainable and zero waste walls in the unit.
Speaking to Toi, said Rajesh Kumar Jain when the MCC engineer approached him to the construction of a compound wall, he agreed to take the job.
“It’s like a pilot project.
We built a 100-foot wall with a height of 10 feet with debris provided by MCC.
The walls, which were built 10 days ago, were built at a minimum cost.
We also have gave presentations to officials regarding the construction of buildings Using waste C and D.
Discussion was held with MCC officials to build houses for pouracumikas and school classrooms using the same method, “he said.
Sridevi said construction was completed in a month.
“The company has built a wall at a cost of Rs 2 lakh using 10 loads of debris,” he said.
The Mayor of Sunanada Palanetra told TII that the resulting C and D waste will be used for the construction of the structure.
“We also ask the public to use construction debris for building construction that will reduce construction costs,” he said.
