Mysuru-based sculptor Arun Yogiraj is currently working on a 12-feet statue of guru and philosopher Adi Shankaracharya that is slated to be installed at Kedarnath, at the place where he breathed his last, as per the annals of history.
Interestingly, Arun has been contracted by the Prime Minister’s office (PMO) to complete the statue.
Arun says, “It’s rare opportunity to be able to sculpt someone as revered as Adi Shankaracharya.
Before I was selected By the PMO to make the statue, sculptors from across the country were asked to send models.
I was selected me in September last year and have been working on the final version since then, with Chlorite Schist stone, the kind that has been used in the Belur and Halebidu temples and are known to withstand the vagaries of rain and sunshine.”
