After mucormycosis (black mushrooms), AVN, or ‘bone death’, are alarming complications seen in such patients.
AVN, also called osteonecrosis, causes the death of bone tissue due to lack of blood supply and is mainly reported by those given a high-dose of corticosteroids.
This AVN case may be caused by steroids, but more research is needed to establish a relationship between the two, the doctor said.
AVN can cause a tiny break in the bones and bones in the end can collapse.
This can affect one bone or several bones at once.
