Nagpur: a large number of holes in most roads are here to stay, at least for three more months.
Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) officials told the general body on Monday that the target was to repair the hole until the end of December.
The general meeting of the general body was also told that the Civic body only spent 20% of the funds allocated to repair the road in the past half a year, which is one of the main reasons behind the increase in the number of craters on the streets.
On Demand for Corporators Virendra Kukreja and Abha Pande, the Superintending Engineer NMC Ajay Pohekar told the house that RS4.68 Crore from the allocated Crore RS18 was spent repairing the road in the last financial year.
He added RS2.44 Crore has been spent from RS18 Crore approved in the past six months in the current fiscal.
Thus, the Civic body only spends only RS7.12 Crore from the total provision of RS36 Crore on road repairs.
Corporators from all parties, including the BJP congress and powerful opposition and BSP highlight the majority of roads have many holes and people face serious discomfort.
Corporators Vijay Zalke, Harshala Sable, Jitendra Godeshwar and others accused road accidents have become routine because of holes throughout the city.
On the Corporator request about the deadline on the city road free from the hole, Pohekar said the target was to repair the crater at the end of December.
“Hole 40% higher this year than last year.
The total estimate area of the hole is around 7,000 square meters.
We cannot run all the works in the last fiscal because of Covid-19.
This year is too much affected because of the second wave.
Quantum rainfall is also high This year compared to last year.
The timeline has been prepared and working will be completed at the end of December, “he said.
The Mayor of Dayashankar Tiwari directed the administration to repair the hole as soon as possible.
“I know fixing a hole in the rain is impossible.
But we have two machines to fix a hole in the rain.
Therefore, the administration must repair the hole using these machines.
The process of re-coating the entire road will take time so it must be completed before the end December, “he said.
Passing through the administration stricture, Tiwari said officials must plan and repair the road before the start of the monsoon.
“Tenders must be done and assessing contracts with private institutions must be completed before the start of the financial year.
Then, works can be carried out by private institutions whenever needed throughout the year.
It will not delay work due to tenders and other processes in bad situations, which apply now, “He said.
Tiwari also ordered an investigation into the quantum and the quality of the work done through the JetPatcher machine on complaints of several canporators.
At the Corporator’s request to improve responsibility for officials for poor road conditions, Tiwari said, “Officials took salaries from public money responsible for the works.
The Commissioner must start actions in the engineers who fail to plan and carry out work in a certain period of time.
Also, the action must be made to the contractor who postpone work.
