Nagpur: A man drove with traffic police in his car for almost 50 meters on Saturday when the police asked the man to stop his vehicle.
The incident was caught on camera and the man was then booked by the traffic police.
Circulating on social media, the video showed the police on the hood of driving vehicles, struggling to maintain his balance.
Describing the incident that took place near Panchsheel Square in Nagpur, Deputy Commissioner of Police (traffic) Sarang Awad said, “Constable Sagar Hiwrale traffic manages traffic in Panchsheel Square.
Around 2:00 p.m., traffic police from Morris College Square viewed numbers MH31CP9594 car bearing registration jumps the red light signal and moves towards Wardha Road.
The police passed this through Walkie Talkie.
“Looked on the call, Hiwrale found a car at Panchsheel Square Red Light.
He then moved to the car and gave a signal to stop.
Before he could stop the vehicle, the traffic signal turned green.
Instead of stopping, the driver increases speed in an effort to escape, said Awad.
The police then sat on the hood and the driver took him almost 50 m from the signal.
The driver was then intercepted by other motorists on the canal road, DCP said.
The man was taken to the Sitabuldi police station where it was studied that the driver insulted Bhojare, along with three co-passengers including his wife and sister, was heading to the hospital for some medical emergencies.
“When he has a promise, Bhojare jumps over the signal and goes with traffic police in his hood.
To prove his claim, Bhojare also shows a doctor’s prescription for his sister, who is a severe diabetes patient,” DCP said.
Then, Traffic Police Sitabuldi ordered Bhojare below 179, 239, 184 and 186 of motorized vehicle laws.
He was later allowed to visit the hospital.
Bhojare also submitted a written apology.
