Nagpur: Data 2020 Crime National Records (NCRB) has revealed that Nagpur and Patna have the highest murder rate (3.9) in the country per one Lakh population, followed by Jaipur (3.1) and Delhi (2.8).
The calculation method of murder level, using the 2011 population census – when Nagpur has 25 lakh populations – is challenged as “wrong” by the former city police and now.
According to the senior police, Nagpur, with 97 murders in 2020, had a higher level than Mumbai (148 murder) because of the 2011 population density, and not as a legal and order impact.
Former City Police Chief (CP) BK Upadhyay said that many correspondence has been carried out with NCRB, since when K Venkatesham is CP (2014-15), shows the difference between the current population (around 40 lakh) and that in 2011, which is being made based on calculations current crime rate.

NCRB data places Nagpur, with a level of 25.0 per one population of lakh for violent crime, in third place in the state after Mumbai (184) and Pune (50.5).
Data also shows nagpur and letters have the second highest number of murder in this country for romantic relationships (11) after Delhi (17).
About 15 murders related to monetary disputes in Nagpur, which is the third highest in this country for this motive.
About 23 murders occurred because Vendetta was private.
Four senior citizens were killed in Nagpur in 2020.
CP Amitesh Kumar said Nagpur has historically have a background of the number of high murder cases, on average, hovering around 100 years.
“In the past few years, Komisaria has a surge in population because several villages from Nagpur Regency and three talucas are appointed, which makes the crime rate (crime by one population lakh) higher,” Kumar said.
In injured cases, especially those involving weapons, Nagpur has the highest crime rate (4.1) in the state, followed by Mumbai (3.4) and Pune (3.1).
Nagpur 82.7 Crime rates in the case of theft are the highest in the state, beyond Mumbai (33.9) and Pune (31.0).
In the crime rate of theft of the car too, Nagpur (47.0) was the highest in the state, followed by Pune (19.3) and Mumbai (15.2).
The level of theft of Nagpur (27.5) is also more than Mumbai (8.9) and Pune (6.8).
Acticist Citizen Tejinder Singh Renu said that in general, Nagpur is a safe city.
“Under CP Amitesh Kumar, city police do a good job to keep the crime level under control,” said Renu.
He added, “Citizens must also understand their duties to avoid roaming in the quiet area of strange hours.
We cannot keep our homes / shops unlocked because of carelessness and then complain about clear consequences and unsafe communities.”
