Nagpur: A group of fetal medical experts from this city saved the joy of the family of the people of the people having the first child detected by accumulated fluid that cannot be explained in the left lung in the 21st week of pregnancy without complications.
The liquid was detected in regular sonography and the couple had contemplated the termination until they met Dr.
Alhad Mohite and Dr.
Jitendra Sahu.
Dr.
Mohite and Dr.
Sahu, the two directors at the Nagpur Fetal Medicine Center (NFMC), decided to drain the liquid using a 2-inch long shunt (a circular tube with one end in the fetal chest cavity and outside) on the 28th week.
The liquid was tested to ensure genetic disorders and other complications but no reasonable reason was found.
Recently, a healthy baby was born in 38 weeks (after 9 months of pregnancy) at the city hospital.
The mother was operated and treated by Dr.
Payal Chade, a obstetrician.
Along with newborns and placentas, Shunt Tiny is also removed from the uterus.
“During the last Ultra Sonography (USG), we saw the baby eliminating the shunt from his chest.
At that time the liquid was drained,” said Dr.
Mohite.
Before shipping, the doctor operating and the patient was ordered to ensure that the shunt was also removed from the uterus.
Dr.
Mohite and Dr.
Sahu claimed that this technique was used for the first time in Central India.
“Otherwise, patients spend a lot about the procedures carried out in big cities, including travel and living costs,” Dr.
Mohite said.
They said the lungs left fetus compressed because of the mass effects of the liquid and the heart shifted to the right side.
There are no other abnormalities found, they said.
In accordance with the standard protocol, the genetic counseling of the couple was carried out by Dr.
Kajal Mohite, which is a BGCI certified genetic counselor in the NFMC, and several tests are recommended, which must be done in the fluid around the baby (the amniotic fluid obtained by amniocentesis by placing needles into the amniotic sac) .
“The results showed that babies did not have genetic problems,” said Dr.
Mohite.
Sonographic follow-up is done which shows a slight increase in the volume of fluid and the decision to remove the liquid from the chest is taken.
After the shunt is inserted, every week sonography is done.
“There is no liquid, both lungs develop well and the heart is in a normal position,” said Dr.
Sahu.
