DAHOD: A 23-year-old tribal woman allegedly stripped and paraded with her husband and other villagers as a punishment to marry back with other people in a village in Dhanpur Taluka from Dahod Gujarat District, police said on Wednesday.
A video from the alleged incident, which took place earlier this month, went viral on social media, after Dhanpur police who filed a wall on Tuesday and arrested a female husband and 18 others on Wednesday, BM Sub-Inspector Patel of Dhanpur said.
According to the police, the incident occurred in the village of Khajuri Dhanpur Taluka on July 6 on a viral video, the victim’s husband along with other men, most of his relatives, looked dragged, hit and abandoned his wife in public, in front of women and children, he said, As he added that as a punishment, the victim was also forced to bring her husband on his shoulders and walk.
Even though the video showed several women who tried to cover the victims, the defendant could be seen taking clothes provided by another woman, the official said.
“The victim has recently married with another man.
Her husband and other villagers quickly traced the duo and took them to the village.
On July 6, he was traumatized in public view as a punishment.
We have arrested all the defendants who look in the video.” Patel said.
The defendant was arrested on charges of riots, attacks, criminal intimidation and insulted the simplicity of a woman under the IPC and under the relevant provisions of IT actions to make and circulate the video, the official said.
