Nalas Overflow, Residents in Hyderabad Faced with Flood Threats

Hyderabad: With a few hours of rain bringing havoc in the city on Thursday night and more rainfall expected in the coming days, housing colonies bordering nalas is far worried.
With the inflow from the upstream area increasing with every rain spell, residents are afraid that the overflowing else might flood their homes soon.
More than 1,000 families who lived in several colonies near Saroornagar Lake faced the threat of fresh floods after Nala at Kodaram Nagar began to overflow and radiated into neighboring housing areas.
High warnings have been issued by local volunteers, especially for households in lowland areas.
“We have shared videos from Nala who overflowed with residents, warned them about the threat of floods.
Residents have been told to shift to safer places before the rain again,” said Sai Kumar City, a resident of the P & T colony, told toi.
Nala spilled poisonous froths that accumulated near the walls of the hole of the dot area.
Anant Maringanti, Urban Planner and Executive Director of Hyderabad Urban Labs, who recently examined Nalas in the old city, said the dredging of nalas needed to be done on a war footing.
“Even after the illegal structure in Nalas was destroyed, the widow was remained the same.
If the authorities did not fix it, how to change anything,” he wondered.
Yakutpura residents feel the danger when the nala retaining wall is on the verge of collapse due to heavy water flow.
On Friday, the authorities urged to serve Earthmover to ensure fluent water flow in Nala.
In Azampura, Nala who overflowed flooded the train bridge caused discomfort for commuting.
