Astronauts above the International Space Station (ISS) planted red and green peppers (chili) today, according to the report with Slashgear.
This is part of the Habitat-04 experiment (PH-04) NASA (PH-04) where various food varieties are planted inside the space station for consumption.
Chili seed seeds have been sent to the ISS to be planted in an artificial environment and will take several months to grow, according to the report.
According to representatives from the Kennedy NASA room center, “This will be one of the longest and most challenging plant experiments tried on orbital laboratories.” Why chili? Because they are high vitamin C, there is no need for extensive and spicy processing.
Astronauts require a type of food such as the sense of smell and it feels influenced after living in a long time in micro, the report cites the main researcher Ph-04 Matt Romeyn.
In accordance with Romeyn, planting colorful plants and vegetables in space has helped astronauts and enhance their sense of welfare.
The color and smell has something to do with it, believe the main investigator.
The entire experiment was launched by Astronaut NASA Shane Kimrough, which was said to be one of the astronauts responsible for fostering and eating lettuce – Red Romaine lettuce “Outous” – on the ISS in 2016.
It seems that planting vegetables in space can make the astronauts happier because They must spend months above the usual space station.
