Nashik: The average price of wholesale onions in Lasalgaon APMC increased by around 15% – from Rs 1,930 per quintal on Saturday to Rs 2,225 per quintal on Monday.
The arrival of summer onion in Lasalgaon APMC is almost run out and the arrival of the final onion Kharif has not taken.
According to APMC officials, the arrival of summer onions has diminished to 4,500 quintals per day due to 10,000 quintus / day before Diwali.
Summer onions have a shelf life for six months and farmers prefer to save it in hopes of getting a better price.
This onion was harvested in March and April and there was no new plant for the next six months until October-end – until the arrival of fresh Kharif onion.
Therefore, summer onions stored by farmers serve the market until the onion Kharif is fresh arrives.
This year, onion plants are badly damaged due to rain.
Also, the arrival of Kharif’s late onion has begun, but in a very low amount – around 500 quintals per day.
APMC officials said the arrival of fresh ends of Kharif Kharif is expected to increase in the next two-three weeks and prices will range from Rs 2,000 and Rs 2,500 per quintal for the next two weeks.
On Monday, the minimum onion prices and maximum wholesalers in Lasalgaon were recorded at Rs 900 and Rs 2,555 per quintal respectively.
About 5,600 quintals onions are auctioned in APMC.
