Nashik: Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC), to provide residence for homeless people, has decided to build nine houses where they live in four locations in the city.
Each shelter will have the capacity to accommodate 100 people.
Civic administration has identified four locations to build shelter – Panchavati, Satpur, Wadala and Chehedi.
The total project costs are estimated to RS 22.73 Crore, including Rs 2.73 Crore for electrical related work.
The Mayor of Satish Kulkarni said the approval had been given to the proposal and the Civic Agency would send detailed project reports (DPR) to the state government over his approval.
Supplementary City Commissioner Praveen Ashhtikar said the house shelter was being built under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Livelihoods Urban (Day-NULM) and it will be funded by the state government.
“We will soon send the DPR to the State Government and start working on the project after nodding.
Nine houses where shelters will completely protect 900 people,” Ashhtikar said.
After the direction of the Supreme Court, the state government has appointed an institution to conduct a survey of homeless people in the state.
Thus, a survey was conducted recently in Nashik City by private agents.
During the survey, the agency found 894 homeless in the city.
Thus, the target has been established to provide a refuge for more than 900 people by building a new shelter house.
At present, the night shelter for homeless people is provided at Gadge Maharaj Dharamshala in the city.
