Nashik: The average price of tomato wholesale at Pimpalgaon APMC – The largest wholesale tomato market in the country – jammed from Rs 4.50 per kg to Rs 2.55 per kg for the last 10 days.
Balasaheb Bajare, Secretary of Pimpalgaon APMC, said there had been a big increase in the offer.
However, requests have not continued.
As a result, there is further decrease in average wholesale prices.
The situation will continue to remain the same at least for the next few days, he said.
At present, around 3 lakh tomato crates have come to the market throughout the Nashik district every day.
Of the 3 crates, more than 2.25 lakh the crate came to the APMC Pimpalgaon.
Each chest contains around 20 kg of products.
“There is good tomato production this year, but requests in the domestic market are relatively low.
Moreover, the quality is not very good.
All of these factors have an impact on wholesale prices,” said Bajare.
The price of minimum and maximum tomatoes has been recorded by each of Rs 2.55 per kg and Rs 7.5 per kg, while the average wholesale price of Rs 2.5 per kg.
Farmers still throw products to protest accidents at prices.
This center has sent a letter to the state government, asking for utilizing market intervention schemes (eg) for the interests of tomato farmers, but the state government has not received a call on this issue.
According to sources at the Agriculture Marketing Council of the State of Maharashtra (MSAMB), it is a policy decision to be taken by the state government.
Uttam Avhad, a tomato farmer, said he had suffered a big loss.
“We have to get at least Rs 13 per kg to make decent production and transportation.
But I have to throw products in the market place because I only get Rs 2 per kg a few days ago.
I can’t even pay transportation costs,” he said.
Ajit Navale, Secretary General of the All-India Kisan Sabha (AIMS), said “Tomato farmers will go through a physical phase.
Both the central and state governments have not prepared this and have not made efforts to provide assistance to farmers.” “We have been seeking help Immediately Rs 50,000 per acre for tomato farmers, but the center and country have ignored our request.
The whole season of the tomato has been in vain.
The center should make efforts to remove obstacles in the export of tomatoes to Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal.
But that hasn’t happened, “he added .
