Natural safari starts on G’chiroli to overcome human-animal conflicts

Nagpur: Struggle with Human-Animal Conflict, Gadchiroli Forest Circle has found through the media by launching a natural tour project in Gurvala, 12km from the District Head Office in Potegaon Road.
This project will be carried out with community participation.
Forest Conservator (CF) Kishore Malekar said Gurvala forest area was scattered in 3733 hectares, but Safari would be available in 54km routes.
“Human-tiger conflicts have raged in the past and have requests from locals for natural launch safaris.
At least 15 families will get direct profits and many others indirectly from their first project, “said Misskar.
The number of tigers has developed in the Forest Division of Gadchiroli and WADSA and in the past three years, at least 18 villagers were killed in tigers and leopards attacks there.
“To make positive feedback about forests and wildlife by looking for local support, we have started the project.
This will be run by a Joint Forest Management Committee (JFMCS) from Gurvala and Hirapur.
The project was opened by the Head of Gadchiroli Zilla Parishad Ajay Kankdalwar on December 10, “said Missar.
Regardless of the presence of tigers, leopards, hyenas, foxes, laziness bears, wild dogs, and herbivores such as deer, chiters, blue bulls, and wild boar, the forest has a typical characteristic of several stone bumps.
These natural stone mounds have been identified as tourist attractions and local named shapes and sizes.
For example, on one stone where it looks like coconut and therefore is called ‘Narali Gota’.
A large stone mound has been named ‘Dholi Gota’.
Dholis is used by tribes to store seeds and still in the prevalence.
Although Gadchiroli has four protected areas (PAS) – Pondons Conservation Reserves, and Chaprala, Pranhita, and Bhamragarh Nature Reserve, this is the first like a natural safari in the regional forest.
The Gurvala project began taking a signal from Chandrapur circles, where two safari forests – one in Karwa in the range of Ballarshah and another in Chora-Tirwanja forest in Bhadravati – was launched in January and February this year.
Gurvala Sarpanch Darshana Bopche welcomed the step and hoped that tourism would bring some work for the local youth.
“However, the other side is that the villagers must spill dependence on the forest because there will now be limiting grazing, collection of firewood, and leaves of tendu, which is the greatest source of livelihoods for people,” Bopche said.
“If we continue with these practices, a very natural safari purpose will be defeated.
But on demand from locals, we will take this problem with forest officials for alternative compartments, “said Bopche.
