Bhubaneswar: Chairman of the Minister of Naveen Patnaik on Friday raises concerns over the third wave of Covid-19 anticipated and the impact on children.
He asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to launch a vaccine for the age group of 12-18 years as soon as possible.
In a PM video meeting with six countries watching a high new infection, Naveen said, “I want to request that the vaccine for the age group – 12-18 years can be prioritized and launched earlier,” he.

In the meeting, Modi discussed the Covid situation with Naveen in addition to CMS from Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Maharashtra.
Naveen’s attention to children is based on the assumption that children may be more affected in the third wave that may be left unknown since ongoing inoculation targeting them over 18 years.
Repeating the country’s demand to change the formula sharing vaccines between the government and private hospitals from 75:25 to 95: 5, Naveen asks PM.
“In Odisha because of the low presence of private hospitals, the removal of the vaccine from a 25% quota is less,” said Naveen.
Referring to previous communication with the central government about this issue, Naveen said, “We have written to the Government of India to increase allocation to the 95% state government and reduce allocations to private hospitals to 5%.
This will help us in increasing vaccination rates In the state.
“While the Minister of Health Naba Kishore has written to Health Minister Union Harsh Vardhan, Principal Principal Pradipta Kumar Mohaparna has written to the Secretary of the United States of Rajesh Bhushan to divert 20% personal quota to the government.
While Odisha has been locked up with countries that witnessed a high new infection, said Naveen, “the situation of Covid-19 in Odisha has increased rapidly in recent weeks and now the cases are in several beaches.” Odisha’s positive cases on Friday more than 21000 are the sixth highest among countries after Kerala (1.09 lakh), Maharashtra (1.07 lakh), Karnataka (32,000), Tamil Nadu (25,000) and Andhra Pradesh (25,000).
Data on the Ministry of Health shows that most new infections in Odisha are mainly reported from Khurda and Cuttack.
Of the 2070 new infections reported on Friday, the two districts contributed 765 (37%).
The highest 446 came from Khurda followed by 319 from Cuttack.
More than a third of active cases (7877 of 21,745) are concentrated in these two districts.
While the position of the total test of the state has dropped below 4% for about a week, it is 2.95% on Friday.
