Navi Mumbai: A cruelty monkey baby chained behind a truck was rescued from the APMC market in Vashi by animal activists Bhumi Jeevdaya Samvardhan Trust.
Monkey health is currently being monitored after notifying forest officials.
“I have received a call from Ashish Bhanushali who works in the APMC wholesale market, that a baby monkey is seen on Friday afternoon tied with a chain to a truck in the market wheat.
I then told the local APMC police station and reach the site to personally examine animals .
The monkey looks stressed because it’s nothing around it, “said Sagar Savla, the founder of trust.
He then called the savior of the wildlife Sahil Shaikh and also the Thane Range forest official Darshan Murkute, who gave Savla permission to take monkey custody and monitor his condition.
“When we asked the truck driver and cleaners how they had acquired baby monkeys, they could not give the right answer, and only said that monkeys were their pets.
When we explained to them that the monkeys were protected by species under wildlife ( Protection) ACT, 1972, they easily handed over monkeys to us, “Savla said.
Activists Bhumi Jeevdaya further informed that truck cleaners also told them that monkeys were sold in certain areas in the state of Uttar Pradesh.
“We told them that it was illegal to buy or sell monkeys.
Also, because many monkey families were also seen along the highway close to the protection of Karnala near Panvel, it was possible that the monkey commotion was happening.
However, we are taking monkey care saved, and will report further to the forestry department in a few days, “said Savla.
