Navi Mumbai: Even when the center has installed pressure on the Maharashtra Department of Environment about the issue of saving NRI and TS Chanakya in Seawoods, Nerul, from being buried for the golf course, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has expressed interest in preserving the body of the water as part of ‘Flamingo City’ mission.
The State Mangrove Foundation has expressed his desire to protect wetlands as part of Flamingo Flamingo Thane Creek Protection Management proposed by BNHS.
“The world wants to preserve wetlands registered by Atla Inventory and Assessment of National Wetlands (NWIA), but only the city planner CidCo is a block block,” said Director of the Natconnect B Foundation B N Kumar in his latest event to the Department of Environment.
Responding to the application for environmental lovers for intervention, Dr.
M Ramesh, scientists at the Union Minister of Environment, forest changes and climate, have sent the second reminder to the authority of the country’s wet land seeking “the necessary actions”.
Meanwhile, NMMC has asked CidCo to hand over NRI wetlands and TS Chanakya and Lake Lotus in Nerul to Civic’s body for maintenance.
The city engineer NMMC Sanjay Desai said the city corporation would want to maintain the identity of ‘Flamingo City’ for Navi Mumbai which is home to the largest number of pink winged birds in the country.
NMMC has asked the center to allow the tag of the city of Flamingo to Swachh Bharat Survey-2022, he said.
The Civic body will immediately display a signboard with the main points with greetings “Welcome to Flamingo City”.
Kumar, who has taken the initiative to get a Flamingo City tag for Navi Mumbai and was written to the chairman of the Minister and NMMC to preserve wetlands, expressing hope that NMMC requests will be accepted.
“Actually, we have suggested to Commissioner NMMC Abhijit Bangar to take over wetlands and maintain them in relation to the Mangrove Foundation who also wants to preserve wetlands,” he said.
Bangar has asked Desai to continue it.
Natconnect has shown CM which is CidCo, handing over property to NMMC which was formed 30 years ago, has submitted 24 lakes and not NRI and TS Chanakya wetlands.
In contrast, the City Planning Agency has rented the area to develop a golf course that against Sunil Agrawal activists and the team has been challenged in the Bombay High Court.
The court has hit a golf course where CidCo and private developers move the Supreme Court.
Considering that CidCo owned by the state government, Kumar asked CM to ask the planning body to attract the Supreme Court petition.
CM requested an urban development department to see this.
Sunil Agrawal said it was time for wetlands to be protected because the developer had cheatedly obtained the permit of Rera.
He added that agencies and builders apparently in a hurry to develop the area despite the fact that this problem was waiting for the hearing of the Supreme Court.
“All hopes of saving biodiversity will disappear if the government is postponing again to save wetland,” he said.
Agarwal added that at this time, winter migrants (Flamingo) cannot enter TS Chanakya wetlands because someone has blocked the flow of tidal water on this site.
Waspada residents have complained about efforts that often disagreize wetlands by pursuing birds and blocking the flow of tidal water, agrawal said.
Stagnant water is not conducive to Flamingo which is clearly known personal interest, he said.
Meanwhile, NMMC has also begun to paint the city literally pink with Flamingo to instill proud among people.
Natconnect has asked Civic’s body to surpass symbolic paintings and pursue the mission to take over wetlands under his control.
Kumar showed that the NMMC commissioner also happened to be in the Mangrove Committee and the wetlands of the High Court and he must greatly argue to protect biodiversity in his jurisdiction.
Natconnect has also written to the wetland committee to facilitate the process of submitting two wetlands to NMMC and preserving it.
