Navi Mumbai: Panvel Tehsil office has invaded illegal sand mining sites in Taloja Creek in Kharghar Node, after receiving complaints from residents and activists about this activity which also destroyed mangroves.
Following Tehsildar’s orders, Vijay Talekar, government officials swooped on coastal sites, which were close to the Kalamboli pipeline area, and won two ships, motorcycle pumps, sand filters, and other equipment used illegally the source of sand.

RTI activist Anarjit Chouhan said, “Some local residents have told me how roughly illegal sand mining activities occur in the Taloja Creek area in Kharghar.
There is a large patch of green mangrove forest here, which also disappears because of this dangerous activity..
Providing this information to the Panvel Tehsil office, which leads to the attack.
” Other local Kharghar said, “This illegal sand mining lasts over the past few weeks.
There should be regular patrols by the government and police officials along the coastal and rivers, so that the green mangrove forest is not destroyed.
“Chouhan added,” sand is stolen illegally from the river then used for construction work.
However, sand miners did not realize that this not only killed mangrove forests but also reduced the availability of groundwater.
Certain river banks are also eroded because of heavy sand mining.
