PUNE: Those at the National Defence Academy (NDA) on Friday were treated to a rare sight — the foremost naval officer in the country going toe-to-toe with young cadets in a show of fitness.
Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Karambir Singh, who is the Reviewing Officer for the Passing Out Parade of NDA’s 140th course, performed a set of push ups with cadets during a visit to his parent squadron, ‘Hunter’.
Joining Singh was NDA Commandant Lieutenant General Asit Mistry.
“The Navy chief visited his parent squadron ‘Hunter’ today at the academy.
During his interaction with cadets there, he asked them ‘how do you celebrate victory call of the squadron?’, ‘By doing push-ups’, was the answer from assembled cadets.
Singh then said, ‘let’s do the push-ups’,” Mistry said, “It was a completely impromptu suggestion and so, we did a set of push-ups in our ceremonial uniforms.
” Mistry said the cadets would be inspired by this rare moment.
“The cadets are full of ‘josh’ and enthusiasm to remain fit through their military career.
Even at this age, we are fit.
They can also remain fit,” Mistry added.
In pictures which went on viral on social media, other military officers, who were present at the squadron, also joined the senior officers.
Singh (61) belongs to the 56th course of the NDA and passed out from the academy in 1979.
More than 300 cadets will be passing out after completing three years of military training at NDA on Saturday.
