NCW wrote to the state, UTS to take steps to close the gender gap in covid vaccination

New Delhi: Taking knowing media reports that highlight low absorption from Jab Anti-Covid among women, the National Commission for Women (NCW) has been written to the Secretary’s Head of all states and the United States to take steps to close the gender gap in vaccination.
NCW Chairman Rekha Sharma said the gap in the scope of immunization between the two sexes was a very alarming problem for the commission.
“There is an urgent need to increase the proportion of women who come to vaccination cubicles to receive vaccines so that the gap in immunization coverage can be improved,” he said.
The letter also stated that there was a need to create public health awareness so that more women were vaccinated priority.
Media reports have highlighted that the current gender gap in the administration of vaccines is significantly more among the elderly population than younger women.
This reflects the gender stereotypes in the community because women who are left behind and the reasons include unequal access to resources and technology for both gender, read the letter.
In the letter, NCW has mentioned that in many households, women’s health is not considered a priority compared to men if they do not work outside the home and finally get less preferences for vaccination.
However, women become the main caregivers are more likely to be infected while caring for sick family members.
NCW has written that the center has been running intensive vaccination drives to achieve every corner and gap of the country along with regular campaigns to eliminate incorrect and complicated information about the side effects of the vaccine.
The state government must also continue the campaign to ensure the correct information reaching remote parts of India, he said.
