Chennai: The number of students who registered NEET (national-cum-entrance feasibility tests) 2021 from Tamil Nadu has dropped 7% compared to the previous year.
For the second year in a row, the number of applicants from the country has dropped after reaching 1.4 lakh applicants before the pandemic in 2019.
Of the 1,21,617 applicants for NEET 2020, the number has dropped to 1,12,889 for NEET 2021, according to the agency registration data National testing.
Among applicants, 71745 (63.5%) were female candidates and 41,144 (36.5) were male candidates.
Experts quote the delay in conducting general medical entrance tests and increasing cut-off for medical acceptance as an excuse to soak in the application.
Meanwhile, the number of students who chose to write examinations in Tamil increased by 16% because the number rose from 17.101 at 2020 to 19,867 in 2021.
