Chennai: The number of students who registered NEET (national-cum-entrance feasibility tests) 2021 from Tamil Nadu has dropped 7% compared to the previous year.
For the second year in a row, the number of applicants from the country has dropped after reaching 1.4 lakh applicants before the pandemic in 2019.
Of the 1,21,617 applicants for NEET 2020, the number has reached 1,12,889 for NEET 2021, according to the registration data for the national testing agency.
Among applicants, 71745 (63.5%) were female candidates and 41,144 (36.5) were male candidates.

Experts quote the delay in conducting general medical entrance tests and increasing cut-off for medical acceptance as an excuse to soak in the application.
Meanwhile, the number of students who chose to write tests on Tamil increased by 16% because the number rose from 17.101 at 2020 to 19,867 in 2021.
NEET 2021 is scheduled to be held on September 12, 2021.
“Over the past two years, the cut-off for medical acceptance increased by 100 marks.
Students are currently reluctant to take the exam without training because the cut-off for government universities has reached 570 and 580 values.
This year students do not attend even regular classes when Classes are held online.

He further said the quota for government school students could be the reason behind the increase in the number of students who chose to write in Tamil.
