New Delhi: Nearly 27% of food samples taken for testing at 2020-21 are not in accordance with the standards and one of every five samples that are not suitable are found insecure.
In a written reply, the Ministry of Food and Consumer Affairs told Rajya Sabha on Friday that 23,493 of 86,696 food samples analyzed were found not in accordance with the standard and 4,675 samples found “insecure”.
11,027 other samples analyzed were found below the standard.
According to government data, a maximum of 1,921 food samples were found insecure at Uttar Pradesh, followed by Tamil Nadu (1,221) and Kerala (543).
Meghalaya is the only state in which all 48 samples are found to adjust the standard specified.
The ministry informed the house for that 20,959 civil cases registered against violators and 13,195 cases were decided.
3,608 Other criminal cases initiated against violators and 486 cases were decided.
According to the Ministry, state government institutions have increased the RS sentence of 4.21 Crore to violators.
It is said that no separate data is available in connection with the actions taken in connection with food grains distributed in PDS stores.
