BENGALURU: Midfielder Nilakanta Sharma is convinced regarding the Indian men’s hockey team rewriting history in the forthcoming Tokyo Olympics, stating the side should peak at the perfect time to have the ability to split its four decade-long trophy drought. India have won eight gold awards before, but their past top end came far back at the 1980 Moscow Olympics. “Everybody is convinced about their various games and when we perform to our entire capacity, we can definitely create history at the Tokyo Olympics. It is all about peaking at the perfect time and that is going to be our primary focus when the Olympics is penalized,” explained Nilakanta, who’s a critical cog at India’s midfield alongside skipper Manpreet Singh. With his own admission, the Manipuri participant said he’s a huge fan of Manpreet from whom he’s learnt a great deal. “It has been a terrific journey together with the Indian group up to now. We’ve noticed a great deal of highs and that I believe we could do much better in the upcoming years. I’ve been quite blessed to have the opportunity of playing along with a participant like Manpreet Singh from the midfield. I’ve heard a good deal from him. “I’ve improved a good deal in the past couple of decades, but I truly need to have my game to another level this season,” stated the 26-year-old, that has played 57 games for India so much,” he further added. Nilakanta, that had been a part of this golden medal-winning group at the 2019 FIH Men’s Series Finals at Bhubaneswar, also emphasized the areas where he believes the group should concentrate on prior to the Olympics. “I believe we could enhance on executing our brief moves and keeping possession for a longer period. If we maintain the ball for a lengthier time period, then we could make more chances to score. “We only need to create a couple tweaks here and there,” he explained.
