Neena: Nobody saw me as a commercial actor

Neena Gupta is currently enjoying her time in the industry in what is supposedly her second innings in films.
However, there was a time when she was not seen as a commercially viable actor.
Talking to a news publication about the same, Neena revealed that it was only Shabana Azmi, Deepti Naval and Smita Patil who got all the lead roles.
According to her, they were seen as the face of the art-house cinema.
She also added that even though filmmakers like Govind Nihalani and Shyam Benegal knew the actress, they never saw her as a commercially viable actor.

Elaborating further, Neena added that at the time she didn’t know how to conduct herself in the industry.
She took everybody to be her friend.
However, she soon realised that nobody is friends here in the industry.
Everybody is just there to do their job and you have to do yours.

She also went on to reveal that she was hesitant to persuade people constantly thinking it would push them away more and they’ll end up not talking to her.
She was very shy and didn’t know the rules of the business.
Neena admits to making plenty of mistakes because she didn’t know any better.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Neena will next be seen in Vikas Bahl’s next titled ‘Goodbye’.
The actress will be seen sharing the screen space for the first time with Amitabh Bachchan in the film.
Apart from them, it also features South star Rashmika Mandanna and Pavail Gulati in key roles.
