The Indian national film archive has acquired a negative camera from the film Raju Hirani and the film ‘PK’ Aamir Khan.
The filmmaker handed negatively to the Director of Nfai Prakash Magdum on Tuesday at Pune.
When contacted by Prakash Magdum said, “PK is the 2014 film and is one of the last films shot in celluloid when the transition from celluloid to digital technology takes place in India.” Magdum added, “Even though this film is taken on celluloids released in digital format and may also be one of the most important films of the archive perspective.”
NFAs have acquired most of Raju Hirani films which are now preserved in their archives.
Madgum added, “All film Raju Hirani was previously with us.
‘Sanju’ even though it was shot digitally but they would hand over some digital film materials to us.
Apart from the original negative, they have 200 cans in a hurry that is not included in the film and also About 300 cans from ‘3 idiots’ rushed and publicity materials including posters, photos and lobby cards.

The Indian national film archive has regularly obtained old films and preserved it.
Magdum informed that around 70 to 80 Marathi films made in the 1950s and 60s have also been acquired by NFAs which include Usha Mangeshar Productions’ Film ‘Pavna Kathacha Dhondi’ and the film Ayyan ‘Telin Telin’, which is considered missing.
Some of the latest additions for NFAs are Dev Anand ‘Tere Ghar to Saamne’ and Raj Kapoor ‘Parvaris’.
Magdum said, “We continue to get films for preservation and continue to reach to production houses for the same thing.”
In 2018, the negative of 21 films from RK Studio was also handed over to NFAs which included ‘AAG’, ‘Barsaat’, ‘Awara’, ‘Boot Polish’, ‘Shree 420’, ‘Jis Desh Mein Hai’, ‘Sangam’, ‘Mera Naam Joker’, ‘Kal Aaj Aur Kal’, ‘Bobby’, ‘Dharam Karam’, ‘Satyam Shivam Sundaram’, ‘Prem Rog’, ‘Biwi O Biwi’, ‘Ram Teri Ganga Maili’ and ‘AA AB Sea Chale ‘.
NFAI has a V Shantaram film, Subhash Ghai, Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Basu Bhattacharya and Poster Amitabh Bachchan and Poster Six-Sheeteter ‘Mughal-e-azam too.
