Kolkata: The 2020 New Education Policy (NEP) will turn India into a global knowledge hub where IIT will play an important role, said Education Minister Union Dharmendra Pradhan on Wednesday.
IITS will not only ‘learning centers’ but ‘nation’s development centers’, he said while overcoming the 71th IIT Kharagpur Foundation Day program in virtual mode.
“NEP 2020, who has completed one year, aimed at realizing the vision of accessibility and equality in education …
As more youth aspiring to pursue technical education, we ensure there is no shortage of proficiency in English,” Pradhan said.
The NEP 2020 will destroy obstacles and revolutionize the way technical education is given to proper candidates, the Minister said.
The minister said that several technical universities throughout the country will provide technical education in regional languages that are widely used for those who do not want to learn in English.
By stating that IIT Kharagpur embodied the purpose of NEP, he urged his authority to prioritize the purpose of excellence, with a greater goal to change it from the ‘learning center’ to the ‘Nation Development Center’.
Pradhan said when India entered the 75th independence just a few days ago, it was the pleasure that “we celebrated the 71th day of the IIT Kharagpur Foundation.” Initially, IIT began functioning from 5, Esplanade East, Kolkata, and immediately shifted to Hijli in the Medinipur District which was not divided in 1950.
The name ‘India Institute of Technology’ was adopted before the formal inauguration of the Institute on August 18, 1951, by Maulana Abul Kalam Azad .
Educational Secretary Amit Khare, who also discussed this program virtually, said that while IIT Kharagpur was the oldest IIT in terms of age, the youngest coincidentally in terms of technology and new initiatives.
“From engineering to the management school, law school and immediately a medical institute, IIT Kharagpur has fully explored the potential for multidisciplinary learning,” he said.
IIT Kharagpur Director V K Tewari, who attended the auditorium on campus where a small number of people from the Institute was present, said that in return to Khare that the Institute’s medical college will appear in November.
