Kathmandu: Nepal began to give a Covid-19 vaccine amplifier shot on Monday because Coronavirus infection surged because of the spread of the omicron variant, officials said.
Everyday case jumped 4.961 on Sunday, the biggest 24-hour increase in more than six months, took total infection at 955,206, government data showed.
Death related to Covid-19 stands at 11,620, data shows.
Booster’s shot will be limited to Frontline workers for one week from Monday, the Ministry of Health said, after that they will be offered to people 60 and older.
“Booster’s shot will be given to people who have completed six months after getting the second vaccine dose,” the government said in a statement.
Nepal, a natural buffer between China and India, has doubled 39.9% from 30 million people in a campaign that began early last year.
The government has banned large public meetings and schools and colleges close until the end of January to curb the rate of infection.
The authorities also made it mandatory for people to produce full evidence of vaccination to use public services from this week, pushing a large queue at the center of the vaccine.
