Kathmandu: Nepal’s biggest Democratic Party delegation, Nepal congress, on Wednesday Prime Minister who was re-elected Sher Bahadur Deuba as president.
Deuba, who secured 2,733 votes during the second round of elections, defeated Shekhar Koirala, who secured 1,855 votes, according to the 14th General Convention from the Nepal congress.
Koirala is the nephew of former Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala.
The total number of votes thrown during the Tuesday election was 4,623 while 35 votes were declared to be canceled.
The first round of elections could not decide the president because none of the five contestants received a majority of more than 50 percent of the vote.
Another contestant for the party president in the first phase of the election of Prakash Man Singh and Bimalendra Nidhi decided to support 75-year-old Deuba in the second phase of the election, which made his victory comfortable.
On Tuesday, the delegates of Nepal congress chose the second time to elect the party’s president.
To be elected president, a candidate must secure 50 percent plus one vote.
If no one gets 50 percent plus one vote in the first round and the two voting, then the two highest vote candidates will oppose the round between themselves, according to party rules.
At the last convention held in March 2016, Deuba has won in runoff.
The Great Old Party went to election to choose 13 carrier offices – President, two vice presidents, two Secretary General, eight Joint Secretary General and 121 members of the Central Work Committee.
